Alessandra Calò

Born in Taranto in 1977, she lives and works in Reggio Emilia.
Her works are part of important collections (Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Donata Pizzi, MoMA and Met Museum in New York) and have been shown in prestigious international exhibitions and festivals (among others, "Fotografia Europea," Reggio Emilia; "Circulation(s) - Festival de la jeune photographie européenne," Paris; "Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie," Montreal). Artist's books and publications play a founding role in her artistic practice.

In 2015 she participated in the "Fotografia Europea" festival (Reggio Emilia) with the project Fotoscopia, which became part of the De Pietri Artphilein Foundation collection in Lugano.
The following year, the Secret Garden project won the Combat Prize for Contemporary Art, from which she subsequently drew her first artist's book published by Danilo Montanari Editore (2018) with a preface by Erik Kessels, special mention at the Marco Bastianelli Prize as the best photographic book published that year in Italy. Secret Garden becomes part of the Maramotti (Reggio Emilia), Donata Pizzi, MoMA and Met Museum collections in New York.
In 2018, she participates in "Circulation(s) - Festival de la jeune photographie européenne" (Paris) with the project Kochan, and holds a solo exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid on the occasion of the XIV Day of the Contemporary exhibiting the work El jardin secreto.
In 2022 she participated in the festival "Fotografia Europea" with Erbarium,  I fiori sono rimasti rosa (The Flowers Remained Pink) at the Musei Civici of Reggio Emilia from which the eponymous artist's book published by Studiofaganel Edizioni. Also in the same year she participates with Kochan in the "Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie" (Montreal) and the "Diaphane Photaumnales" at the Université de Picardie Jules Vernes à Amiens.

In 2023 he received a special mention at the "ON/OFF Festival" in Arles, directed by Didier de Faÿs, for his work Ctonio, a series that became part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Favignana (Trapani); he also participated in the "Ras al Khaimah Fine Art Festival" in the United Arab Emirates.
In 2024 he was a finalist at the "Premio Candiani", SAC Spazio Arte Contemporanea in Milan with Les Inconnues.
